Holi was fun and extremely colorful. Keeping the spirit of the festival around this time of the year, it is time to make a rather colorful fabric craft this time. And what could be easier and simpler than a designed cushion cover.
So let’s make a cushion cover for the cushions that give us unconditional comfort and never asks for anything in return. Yes, you can get an online cushion cover in India, however, making one is much more fun.
This DIY tutorial is very simple to follow and easy to make as it literally involves just sewing.
- Cushion covers
- 5/6 Ribbons of multiple colors
- Sewing machine/needle
- Ruler/measuring tape
Gather the plain cushion covers
Since you are going to add multiple colored ribbons, it is best to work on a rather plain cushion cover, preferably black. White is an excellent choice as well, but black needs lesser management, especially if you have children in your house.
Bring the ribbons
Take some standard silk ribbons that are easily available in the market. Just make sure that you have 5-6 ribbons of different colors. Try to have bright colors that will contrast and compliment the black background. Yellow, turquoise, pink, orange, red and blue are some recommended choices. However, if you don’t get these exact colors, feel free to make a blend of your own.
Cut the ribbons
Take the measurement of the cushion cover and mark of the ribbon. Cut out the marked length of the ribbon from the roll. Make sure all the ribbons are of the exact same length before proceeding to the next step.
Mark on the cushion cover
Divide and mark the cushion covers such that all the ribbons are placed at equal distance from one another and from the sides of the cover.
Stitch on the covers
Start sewing the ribbon from all sides into the cushion cover. Feel free to make your own arrangement of ribbons on the cover. Sewing machine makes the work much faster, but sewing with a needle also works well.
Your multicolor stripe cushion cover is all set for a face-off with any online cushion cover in India. Throw a couple (or a lot, who is judging?) of them on the couch… Sit back and relax!
