DIY Tutorial – Door Mat Using Old T-Shirts And Other Clothes

Fashions and fads keeping changing and we keep shopping more and more. Eventually, our home becomes overloaded with clothes. We throw them away from time to time to accommodate more space to shop more. But what if could do something useful, which we can find in home furnishing stores in India, but this time make it on your own? Something we need to buy anyway from something we were going to throw anyway.

Materials required

1. Old t-shirts, (about 3-4)

2. Scissors

3. Ruler

4. Sewing machine or needle and thread

5. marker or pencil

Before starting with the procedure, collect all the old clothes and iron them. Precisely, bring your old stock of T-shirts you were planning to discard anyway. Its is advised to pick different coloured T-shirt as the finishing material will look more attractive this way. Carefully iron all of them to straighten any wrinkles on it.


1. Cut the T-shirts

Take the first one (the blue in color), place it flat on the floor and mark a circle on it. Cut it out to get a circular piece. Repeat this process with rest of the clothes, but change the diameter to obtain circles of various dimension.

2. Arrange accordingly

After cutting circles out of the t-shirts. You can arrange the circles are per your choice. place them one by one to get a concurrent circle.

3. Secure the circles

Pin the concurrent circles to secure its position and to eliminate any chances of disturbance while sewing the mat. It is advisable to put it on the floor so that no wrinkles form on it.

4. Start sewing

Bring your sewing machine and start sewing them properly. If you don’t have a sewing machine, DON’T panic, needle and threads still works. It time to show your sewing skills. Sew the smallest circle first and then gradually proceed until you reach the largest outside circle. Voila! Your handmade door mat is all set to rock the floor.
